We find more and more that when speaking with fellow travelers the response when asking about which country they’ve seen the most of, their home country is never top of the list. I’ve probably seen more of my adopted country than I have of my home land. Due to unforeseen circumstances Andrea and I have had the chance to see parts of England and Wales that for the first 48 years of my life were barely on the radar. Specifically, I had forgotten how beautiful, rugged, and awe inspiring the Snowdonia area of North Wales and the Lake District really are!
Well marked trail to the summit of Helvellyn
A month didn’t give us much time but I wanted Andrea to witness some of the amazing countryside that makes people flock to Great Britain. Living in Leicester, situated in the heart of the country, made travel in any direction fairly straightforward with Scotland, Devon, and Wales all drivable in under 4 hours. North Wales, the home of 3,560′ Snowdon, was to be our first port of call – the weather was scheduled to be crappy for our long weekend but being based just outside the picturesque tourist town of Betws-y-Coed offered plenty of other ways to wile away the time.
We had found a cute airbnb conveniently located in Capel Curig in the heart of Snowdonia.
